German Health Alliance - The international Voice of German Health

The GHA – German Health Alliance is an initiative of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). It unites more than 110 members from all sectors of the healthcare industry: medical and laboratory technology, pharmaceuticals, architecture, training and continuing education, consulting, academia, as well as non-governmental organizations and development cooperation institutions.

Our work is based on two pillars:

1. Networking & Market Access

We provide targeted support to our members in developing international markets. With our strong network, working groups on all global regions and key topics, delegation trips, conferences, and joint trade fair appearances, we create platforms for knowledge exchange, new business opportunities, and strategic partnerships. Our goal is to strengthen the international visibility and competitiveness of our members. Through our extensive network of partner organizations, we also serve as an interface between international global health stakeholders, industry, and NGOs.

2. Political advocacy

The industrial healthcare sector is a key pillar of the German economy and accounts for a large share of German exports. We advocate for greater consideration of its importance in international cooperation and foreign trade promotion. We also promote improved policy frameworks, particularly the reduction of bureaucracy and trade barriers – including tariffs – and the international harmonization of standards. We advocate for local content regulations that do not strategically disadvantage small and medium-sized enterprises. Furthermore, we call for the expansion of multilateral and bilateral free trade agreements. To this end, we engage in dialogue with political decision-makers, ministries, and international organizations. Our members benefit from our commitment to better framework conditions that facilitate international trade, promote innovation, and strengthen the global healthcare infrastructure in the long term.

The GHA – German Health Alliance is an initiative of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). It is thus closely and actively linked to, among others, the BDI Digital Health Initiative, the BDI Committee for Industrial Healthcare, the BDI Committee on Foreign Trade, and the BDI Working Group on Development Policy. Furthermore, the Chairman of the GHA Board is a permanent guest member of the BDI Executive Board.
