The 7th Access to Medicine Index was prepared during the worst public health crisis in a century – which has revealed the chronic inequalities of access to medicine like never before. While our results do show progress by the pharmaceutical industry, it also reveals a lack of foresight regardgin the threat of a pandemic, despite warnings by WHO and others. It also shows where persistent inaction is stalling access to products already on the market. Yet we also see best practices in multiple areas, and a notable shift in companies looking systematically at access during product development. This marks a pivotal point that, if sustained, could propel access to medicine for low- and middle-income countries.
