Topics & Goals
The aim of our working group is to exchange ideas with stakeholders and experts in the field of global health on current topics, to create synergies and links with the work of the GHA and its members, and to position ourselves as co-creators of global health on the German and international agenda.
We offer our members an overview of key players and current discussions in the field of global health: We invite global health stakeholders from Germany and international organizations and partners to our meetings for information and discussion. We contribute to various position papers and global health documents, which are presented jointly with the Federation of German Industries (BDI) at international meetings where Germany is represented, such as the G7/B7 and B20 processes. We provide access to and participation in global health meetings for the GHA and the German healthcare industry, enabling us to represent them.
We have succeeded in positioning the GHA as an important voice in the field of global health at high-level meetings with various German ministries and international organizations dealing with global health, as well as directly with policymakers, such as parliamentarians, and in creating increasing visibility for our potential contributions.
At our meetings we discussed topics such as:
– The new role of the WHO in the global health architecture
– the strategy of the new German government in the field of global health, discussed with the head of the Subcommittee on Global Health in the German Bundestag
– Cooperation opportunities for GHA members at EU level.
We have contributed to the formulation of several position papers and articles on global health in the context of the G7/B7 and B20 processes, as well as on the Trips Waiver.
It is our stated goal to strengthen this privileged position. Our goal for the next year is to consolidate our points of contact with ministries and policymakers in order to shape the German contribution to Global Health and to demonstrate the added value of the GHA as a relevant dialogue partner in this process. We have delegated two GHA members to the Steering Committee of the Global Health Hub Germany (GHHG).
We plan to organize an exchange with the World Health Organization during WHS 2022 to strengthen private sector engagement in global health and encourage GHA members to participate.
We also encourage members to become more actively involved as we seek a second leader for the working group.
