Comenius EduMedia Award 2020: Two awards for SZENARIS

Posted on October 16, 2020

The Comenius EduMedia Award was presented on September 24, 2020. The coveted award is presented by the “Gesellschaft für Pädagogik, Information und Medien e.V. (GPI)” for particularly outstanding digital educational media. This year, the Comenius EduMedia Award presentation accompanied by two special circumstances. First, the award ceremony could not take place in the usual setting due to Corona. The award presentation had to be held in a small circle to maintain the hygiene concept. It was broadcast live via webstream to compensate those who stayed at home. The second special circumstance was the 25th anniversary of the award ceremony, which was taken up many times during the event. This includes a summary of the development of digital educational media during a period of a quarter century of Comenius Awards.

This year both, SZENARIS and the “Bundesanstalt Technisches Hilfswerk”, received an award for the system “VR-Deichverteidigungs-Simulator” (VR-Deich Defence Simulator). However, there were two reasons to celebrate. In addition to the Comenius seal for didactic and media quality, one of the coveted EduMedia medals for particularly outstanding quality was awarded. The simulation supports the training of the so-called dike walkers, which examine a virtual section of the dike for various types of damage in a coordinated manner. The various damage situations can be simulated in real time. The task is to find, mark and document damages.

According to the jury of the Comenius Award, SZENARIS has explored new technical possibilities of VR to create an excellent learning environment. The advantage of the program is that it enables learners to learn successfully in their own place, while taking into account the complexity of the skills to be developed.

SZENARIS Managing Director Dr. Uwe Katzky is very pleased about the award: “My business partner Klaus Bock-Müller and I are proud of our entire SZENARIS team, which made this award possible in the first place. It is really great to have a team such as ours”.
