The decision of the Hamburg Local Chamber of the Unified Patent Court is available.

On April 27, 2026, the Hamburg Local Chamber of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) announced its decision in the legal dispute between Teleflex Life Sciences II LLC (“Teleflex”) and Speed Care Mineral GmbH (“SCM”).
- Back in autumn 2024, Teleflex unsuccessfully attempted to obtain an injunction against SCM in preliminary proceedings (Case No. UPC_CFI_701/2024) based on patent EP 2 077 811 B1 concerning a hemostatic device based on clay minerals. Teleflex's application was dismissed by court order of February 21, 2025, following oral proceedings, as the Local Chamber found that the infringement had not been proven. Teleflex did not appeal the decision.
- In parallel, Teleflex pursued its claim of infringement in a separate, pending main action (UPC_CFI_685/2024). SCM also defended itself against this and filed a counterclaim for nullity (UPC_CFI_157/2025).
- In response to the counterclaim for invalidity brought by SCM, the Unified Patent Court declared Teleflex patent EP 2 077 811 B1 invalid for the territory of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden to the extent of claims 1, 2, 3, 7 and 9 asserted by Teleflex.
- This corresponds to the scope of the patent infringement lawsuit that Teleflex had filed against SCM. The infringement lawsuit was dismissed.
- The court had already rejected a request by Teleflex on June 17, 2025, for the release of secret technical specifications and details on the manufacturing of SpeedM®.
The decision is not yet legally binding; Teleflex can appeal within two months of service. The protection of the Teleflex patent expires in July 2027.

“This ruling is not only significant for Speed Care Mineral,” adds Ulf Pommerening. “It sends an important signal to the entire market. SpeedM® remains available. The UPC has declared the Teleflex patent invalid to the extent claimed. This means that, for the first time, it has been legally confirmed that this patent does not preclude our Halloysite technology for hemostasis. We are now intensifying our global production and sales activities.”
