Expansion of German-Egyptian health cooperation

Egypt's health sector in transition

Egypt is one of the most dynamic healthcare markets in the MENA region. The country is in the midst of a comprehensive reform of its healthcare system: With the introduction of the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS), the Egyptian government is pursuing the goal of ensuring comprehensive, high-quality healthcare for the entire population by 2030.

German companies enjoy an excellent reputation in Egypt due to their high quality standards, technological expertise, and reliability. This opens up a wide range of cooperation opportunities in fields such as digital solutions, hospital management, training of medical professionals, and public health and prevention strategies.

Delegation visit of HE Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar to Berlin

As part of the World Health Summit 2025, the GHA – German Health Alliance welcomed a high-level Egyptian delegation led by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to Berlin.

The visit followed on from the GHA delegation's trip to Cairo in June, during which the GHA was received by the Egyptian Ministry of Health. At the invitation of the GHA, the return visit now took place with the aim of further deepening the long-standing health cooperation between the two countries.

An intensive program with 21 appointments in five days

The delegation trip included 21 program items, including:

  • a GHA roundtable at the BDI – Federation of German Industries on the topic “Health Cooperation between Germany and Egypt” with around 20 participating companies,
  • bilateral discussions with GHA member companies,
  • high-level meetings on the sidelines of the World Health Summit,
  • a reception at the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin,
  • Visits from leading German healthcare innovators such as Bioscientia and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
  • and participation in the Women's Health Innovation & Equity Forum, a joint event of the Gates Foundation and the GHA, where HE Prof. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar was a speaker.

In addition, the delegation participated in various events such as the Virchow Foundation awards ceremony and gained valuable insights into Germany's diverse healthcare ecosystem.

Thanks and Outlook

The GHA thanks all participating partners – especially the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin, the Virchow Foundation, the World Health Summit, and all GHA member companies who actively contributed to the exchange.

Special thanks go to Dina Waked, GHA Representative for Egypt, whose commitment and coordination contributed significantly to the success of this delegation week.

Following this inspiring week, the GHA, together with its partners in Germany and Egypt, will further flesh out the numerous cooperation opportunities identified – with the common goal of strengthening health systems, promoting innovation, and sustainably deepening the exchange between both countries.
