Global health needs parliamentary continuity: GHA supports call for continuation of the Subcommittee on Global Health
In a joint appeal, leading organizations from science, civil society and politics, including the GHA – German Health Alliance – advocate for the institutional strengthening and continuation of the Subcommittee on Global Health in the German Bundestag.
Since its establishment, the subcommittee has established itself as a key link between Parliament, the Federal Government, and global stakeholders. It promotes policy coherence across departmental boundaries, strengthens Germany's international visibility in the health sector, and facilitates evidence-based, cross-sectoral debates on pressing challenges such as pandemic preparedness, health system resilience, and equitable access to health services worldwide.
Against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical tensions, climate-related health risks, and growing funding gaps, the signatory organizations emphasize the need for a permanent parliamentary anchoring of global health. A strong, further developed subcommittee can make a significant contribution to aligning Germany's global health engagement strategically, responsibly, and effectively—in the interests of coherence, transparency, and long-term global stability.
