International tenders in the medical field – opportunities, challenges and the importance of training

In a globalized world, international tenders play a key role in modernizing healthcare systems. Whether it's building new hospitals, supplying highly specialized medical technology, or implementing digital healthcare solutions, tenders provide access to innovative providers worldwide and promote competition and efficiency.

But these opportunities come with considerable challenges: Different legal frameworks, standards, and certifications make participation difficult. Language and cultural barriers pose the risk of misunderstandings, while extensive documentation requirements and deadlines pose significant hurdles, especially for smaller companies. Added to this are uncertainties caused by political and economic instability in individual countries.

A key finding of the paper is: The sustainable success of international projects depends largely on competency-oriented training in the target country. Simply providing modern devices and systems is not enough – it is crucial that medical professionals are trained to use and maintain technology safely and effectively, and to integrate it into everyday care over the long term. In addition to traditional face-to-face training, digital formats such as e-learning and extended reality simulations are becoming increasingly important.

Only when technological innovation is combined with knowledge transfer and local empowerment can investments in modern medical technology truly improve care and have a lasting impact.
