Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry you to Egypt-EU Investment Conference from 29 June to 30 June 2024 to Cairo On the occasion of the EU aid package for Egypt, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi agreed to host the conference.
With a total population of 111 million, Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world. Furthermore, Egypt is the third-largest economy in Africa. Egypt is also Germany's third-largest trading partner within the Arab world. In 2023, the trade volume between Egypt and Germany amounted to 5,4 billion euros.
A significant boost to cooperation with Egypt came in March 2024: The World Bank granted Egypt a financing package worth US$6 billion. Of this, US$3 billion is earmarked for financial support of government programs and US$3 billion for strengthening the private sector. At the same time, the EU pledged an aid package worth €7,4 billion to Egypt. The aid package includes low-interest loans, investments, and grants for migration issues. This is intended to deepen the strategic partnership between the EU and Egypt. This also has a significant impact on German-Egyptian economic cooperation.
