Exclusive roundtable discussion with H.E. Professor Dr Jen-Der Lue, Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare

As the final event of WHS Week, the GHA (German Health Alliance) and the OAV (German Asia-Pacific Business Association) hosted an exclusive roundtable discussion with H.E. Professor Dr. Jen-Der Lue, Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare of Taiwan, at our premises in Berlin.

H.E. Professor Dr Jen-Der Lue provided valuable insights into the structure and development of Taiwan’s healthcare services for older adults, illustrating how digital transformation and AI-driven solutions are shaping a more resilient, prevention-oriented health system.

With over 20% of its citizens projected to be aged 65 and above by 2025, Taiwan faces one of the fastest-aging populations in Asia. In response, the government has implemented comprehensive healthy ageing strategies, including expanding community-based long-term care, promoting active ageing initiatives and integrating smart technologies into elderly care. AI-supported diagnostics, telemedicine and wearable health monitoring systems play a key role in enhancing quality of life and reducing the burden on healthcare infrastructure.

The subsequent discussion highlighted opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange between Germany and Taiwan, particularly in the area of smart health innovations for ageing societies.

Both sides emphasised the importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue and exploring future avenues for cooperation in developing data-driven, human-centred solutions that promote healthy and dignified ageing worldwide.
