Roundtable Discussion: The Role of Parliamentarians in the Evolving Architecture of Global Health Reform

On the sidelines of the World Health Summit 2026, UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health and the GHA-German Health Alliance are pleased to invite you to an exclusive breakfast roundtable on „The Role of Parliamentarians in the Evolving Architecture of Global Health Reform.“.

Global health is at a pivotal moment. Several reform processes are currently underway, all seeking to strengthen country ownership, improve coordination, build more resilient health systems, and respond to an increasingly challenging financing environment. At the same time, these developments raise important questions about implementation and accountability, as well as the role different actors can play in shaping and advancing reform. Against this backdrop, the roundtable will bring together parliamentarians and stakeholders from across the global health community for an open exchange on how global ambitions can be translated into meaningful action.

The discussion builds on the Manila Political Declaration, adopted during the UNITE Global Summit 2026, and its call for stronger political leadership, sustainable financing, resilient health systems, and cross-sector collaboration to advance global health priorities. UNITE is the world’s leading network of parliamentarians for global health, bringing together more than 570 current and former Members of Parliament from 121 countries.

We are particularly pleased to welcome Members of Parliament from the UNITE network, who will join representatives from international organizations, academia, civil society, development cooperation, and the private sector for this discussion.

Participants will be invited to briefly introduce themselves at the beginning of the session. Throughout the breakfast discussion, the moderator will guide the conversation around the key questions outlined below and invite participants to share their perspectives and experiences. All attendees are warmly encouraged to actively contribute to the discussion.

Guiding Questions:

• How can multiple reform processes be better connected to reinforce rather than duplicate one another?
• What role should parliamentarians play in translating global reform into national policy, legislation, financing, and accountability?
• What role do you believe your organization should have in designing and implementing multiple reform processes?
• How can different actors measure whether reform is actually strengthening health systems and improving access and outcomes, rather than simply changing institutional structures or financing arrangements?

The discussion will be held under Chatham House Rules to encourage an open, candid, and constructive exchange. Further background information is available in the attached Concept Note.
