We are pleased to confirm that this year’s DiMiMED Conference has been scheduled to take place on 13th and 14th November 2023 and will, as always, be held in association with the MEDICA Trade Fair in Dusseldorf.
Our academic musings and speculations on the needs of the future have been set aside as we confronted the shocking reality of February’s massive earthquake in the Middle East. While earthquakes have, and always will, be a feature of human existence on earth, the scale and levels of destruction experienced in a relatively sophisticated part of the world have stunned us all, and have precipitated feelings of helplessness and frustration. We have been forced to accept that instant external assistance will not always be available to us at a moment’s notice and therefore we have to examine the measures required to maximise survival when we have only the most basic tools at our disposal. Associated with natural disasters, but not exclusive to them, is the challenge posed by migration of populations from areas of crisis such as Sudan most recently, but also the Sahel. And so, the theme of the 11th DiMiMED International Conference will be “Adjusting Global and National Health Services in order to Optimize Emergency Medical Response to Overwhelming Humanitarian Crises, Complex or otherwise, following Saturation of current Surge Capacities”.
While all details have yet to be confirmed, it is envisaged that the Conference will continue to be modular in format, with moderators guiding presentations on CBRN Medial Management, Disaster Medicine and the Humanitarian Perspective, Mental Health, Combat Medical Care, and Moving Points in Disaster and Military Medicine. It is to be hoped that with the overarching theme as outlined above, this Conference will stimulate discussion leading to novel thinking, ideas, and solutions, ranging from preventative measures, through methods promoting advanced preparedness, to simple and effective planning which can all be achieved at a local level.
Moreover, we are also very pleased that there will be again an accompanying industrial exhibition – participants can inform themselves directly about the latest developments.
