2nd Edition: Global event on Enhancing the Sustainability of Investment for Vaccine Manufacturing in Africa | 25 – 27 Jun 2024 | Nairobi

The 2nd edition of the “Global event on sustainable vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa” will take place from 25 – 27 June 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will build on the outcomes and lessons learnt from the 2023 event. The Global event will bring together key actors from global and regional industry, finance, and development organizations.

Africa has an estimated combined population of 1.4 billion and a GDP of 3.4 trillion. Its economy is expected to grow by 4.3 in 2024, making it the 2nd fastest growing region in the world after Asia. Its pharmaceutical market, currently worth approximately 50 billion USD, is accompanied by an annual growth rate of 5-10% – twice as fast as the global average.

African countries rely on importation of vaccines and pharmaceuticals and their existing manufacturers are also dependent on the importation of nearly all active ingredients (API). As Africa embarks on developing its pharmaceutical and vaccine production capacity, close collaboration with the private sector would provide it an important access to technology and know how For this purpose, a global event on strengthening the sustainability of vaccine manufacturing in Africa was successfully organized in June 2023.

There will be opportunities for:

  • Networking: Strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new collaborations between global and Africa based vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturers, aiming to facilitate effective technology transfer, foster investments and bolster the pharmaceutical landscape in Africa
  • Market Intelligence: Gain insight into current market trends, key players and financiers of Africa’s vaccine and pharmaceutical markets
  • Off-take mechanisms: Learn how to access markets and offtake mechanisms such as the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA)-GAVI, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis, and African pooled procurement mechanisms
  • Business models: Examine sustainable business models, technology and investment partnership for vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa
  • Finance: Gain insight into available financial and technical support programmes and how to access them
  • Supply: Chain Meet and learn more about the offers of technology providers and supply chain actors for pharmaceutical and vaccines manufacturing

The event will comprise of keynotes, panel discussions, breakout activities, poster exhibitions, and networking
opportunities and will feature high level leaders and representatives from the public sector, manufacturer,
supplier, donor and partner landscape.
