WHO invites you to the open session of the third Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on in vitro diagnostics (SAGE IVD) that will be held for WHO Member State missions, non-State actors (NSA) in official relations with WHO and IVD industry associations on Monday, 23 March 2020 from 08:30 to 15:00, at WHO headquarters, salle B.

Background information:
WHO established a SAGE IVD charged with developing a List of Essential In Vitro Diagnostics (EDL) and providing advice to WHO on all matters related to IVDs.

The first meeting of the SAGE IVD was held in Geneva in April 2018. During this meeting, the group defined the methods of work and the objectives of SAGE IVD and provided recommendations towards the establishment of the first Essential in vitro Diagnostics List in May 2018.

Since then, the EDL secretariat has organized monthly teleconferences with SAGE IVD to define the process for development of further updates of the list, including the process for submission, revision and publication of tests, and to discuss the next steps towards implementation of the list at national level.

The second meeting of the SAGE IVD was held on 18 to 22 March 2019 followed by the establishment of the second Essential in vitro Diagnostics List and meeting report, including evidence base and expositions of the applications and the basis of decisions made to list or reject these IVDs. The evidence is expected to guide countries on constituting their national EDLs.

The 2020 SAGE IVD panel was selected from a roster of experts developed from nominations from Member States and experts applications.

The application period for inclusion of in vitro diagnostics in the third EDL was opened in July 2019 and closed in December 2019. Submissions, supporting documents and reviews performed by SAGE IVD members are now available for stakeholders comments.

The third meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on In Vitro Diagnostics (SAGE IVD) will be held on 23 to 27 March 2020 at WHO headquarters. The objective of the meeting is to discuss and make recommendations on policies and strategies related to IVDs including:
To collect input from relevant stakeholders during the open session;
To discuss and make recommendations for the third WHO list of essential in vitro diagnostics (EDL) and
To discuss the way forward to increase access and appropriate use of in vitro diagnostics.
