German Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has launched the Global Health Hub Germany, a network for German health expertise. More than 200 representatives from academia, civil society, youth, think tanks, private sector, politics and officials from various ministries took part in the launch event at the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin. As key players in Global Health the attendees have been invited to join the Global Health Hub Germany to exchange ideas and to accelerate new projects and partnerships.
The hub as multi-sectoral platform is financed by the Federal Ministry of Health and coordinated by the GIZ Berlin office for the first three years. The Global Health Hub Germany is seen as a driver to work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Unites Nations Agenda 2030. Minister Spahn highlighted combatting antimicrobial resistance, HPV, neglected tropical diseases and cancer as important Global Health issues. Another essential focus will be on digitalization in health. The overall aim of the Global Health Hub Germany is to take responsibility for better worldwide access to healthcare. The Federal Minister of Health mentioned that Germany needs to use its strength and expertise to effectively make a change.
Global Health is one of GHA’s priorities, with a specific focus on health system strengthening.
