The fast-evolving fight against COVID-19 in Africa: a perspective from the ground
Wednesday, 8 July 2020
from 5Â to 6pm (CET)
via Microsoft Teams
Predictions and modelling about COVID-19 indicated that Africa would be the next high-risk area but this has seemingly not yet been the case. So why were the most dire of predictions so far off?
Dr Ingrid Hamm, Managing Director of the Global Perspectives Initiative, will be interviewing Dr Solomon Zewdu, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Deputy Director of Health Ethiopia & Africa, to share his personal view from the ground on how the virus has developed in Africa. Following this link you find short CVs of Dr Hamm and Dr Zewdu attached.
The conversation will explore the lessons that can be learned from the continent on how to manage the spread of COVID-19 and foster regional and global cooperation – lessons not just for other African countries, but also for the Global North. The conversation will also interrogate the crucial role that technology and innovation have played in the fight against the pandemic and the benefits of multilateral cooperation to achieve common goals.
