The Arab-German trade exchange has witnessed a tremendous growth from €41 billion in 2021 to €51 billion in 2022. This significant increase can also be observed in the healthcare sector, where Arab and German collaboration has expanded to encompass hospital planning and equipment, pharmaceuticals, finance, digital transformation, political involvement and lessons learnt from the Covid-19 crisis.

Germany boasts the largest economy in Europe, with an impressive GDP of €3.87 trillion achieved in 2022. Germany’s world-renowned healthcare system excels in infrastructure, medical expertise, pharmaceuticals, research, and education. In 2021, healthcare expenditure was €474.134 billion (13.2% of GDP), driving the importance of knowledge transfer, factory establishment, innovation, and collaborations to enhance personnel training.

Approximately 450 million people reside in the Arab countries, with 70% of the population being under the age of 30. In 2022, the GDP of the Arab countries amounted to €3.4 trillion. The healthcare sector is one of the top agenda of many Arab countries. Currently the healthcare sector is reshaped by three major forces, first the increasing use of technology, second the need for healthcare providers to be more resilient, agile, and productive in response to a rapidly changing healthcare landscape and the third force is the imperative to treat patients as whole individuals. To make the most of these forces’ opportunities, governments, healthcare regulators, and healthcare providers need to work together in four future areas: strategy, policy, and regulations; governance and partnerships; funding and financing; and information and communication technology.
