Bonn/Berlin 14.10.2022
The World Health Summit 2022, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, forms the leading meeting for global health.
From October 16-18, the conference in Berlin will discuss important health and cross- cutting issues such as pandemic preparedness, sustainable global health systems, food security, digital transformation and climate change.
Once again, the GHA – German Health Alliance is contributing its expertise to important sessions and panel discussions. In particular, the focus will be on Germany’s role in global health and on building partnerships with international organizations and representatives of other countries.
The objectives of WHS 2022 are to develop innovative solutions to improve global health, to establish global health as a key policy issue, and to continue the global health debate in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The World Health Summit 2022 is being held under the patronage of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, WHO executive director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and French President Emmanuel Macron, and is being organized for the first time in close cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO). More than 300 speakers, around 40 representatives of the WHO and numerous government officials as well as stakeholders from science, business, civil society and international organizations make the World Health Summit an internationally important event.
Since the World Health Summit in 2014, there has been close cooperation between the GHA – German Health Alliance and the WHS, with collaborative events such as panel discussions, workshops and side activities.
Also at this year’s WHS, the GHA – German Health Alliance will co-organize several sessions with other partner organizations.
For example, the “5th German – East European & CIS Health Forum” as a WHS side event together with the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations on October 14. “The Pivotal Role of Innovative Diagnostics in Pandemic Preparedness & Response and Health System Strengthening” as a WHS Side Event by Konrad Adenauer Foundation, FIND and GHA on October 16.
“The role of Parliamentarians in the development of a Global Pandemic Treaty” as a WHS panel discussion with IFGH, UNITE, UNAIDS, and GHA, among others, on October 17.
“Harnessing Digital Technology within Surgical Care Systems – An Investment Case for Health System Strengthening” as a WHS side event by The Global Surgery Foundation, Proximie, Health Innovation Exchange and GHA on Oct. 17.
Another highlight is the inaugural Virchow Prize for Global Health, endowed with 500,000 euros, on October 15, 2022, under the patronage of German President Frank- Walter Steinmeier. 1,500 high-ranking guests from all over the world are expected to attend. The GHA is closely involved in the establishment of this prize and the charitable Virchow Foundation for Global Health, through its co-chairman Roland Göhde. Roland Göhde is also a member of the Virchow Prize’s Board of Trustees.
