Brief Introduction:

Johanniter International Assistance is committed to ensuring a life with health and dignity worldwide – in times of crises and for a better future. To this end, we align our work with three programmatic objectives: Health, livelihoods, and humanitarian aid in emergencies.
After natural disasters, fast, qualified and well-coordinated aid is necessary for the survival of many people. As part of disaster preparedness, we strengthen local structures to enable community-based first responders to carry out life-saving measures.
In 2017, the World Health Organization classified the Johanniter International Assistance emergency medical team as the world’s first non-governmental organisation in the category “EMT Type 1 Mobile”. In the event of a disaster, our volunteers provide outpatient medical care in two mobile teams. A total of 24 volunteers are available within 48 hours for two-week medical missions in the target country.
In the area of health, we are working to ensure that more people have access to needs-based, high-quality health care. We improve the infrastructure of basic medical health facilities and promote the training of medical staff.
Our preventive measures, especially in the area of mother-child health, reduce mortality and enable children under the age of 5 and pregnant and breastfeeding women in particular to lead healthier lives. The adequate supply of clean water, sanitation and healthy food is part of our comprehensive health measures.
