The annual World Health Summit in Berlin is one of the world’s leading strategic forums for global health and brings together leaders from politics, science and medicine, the private sector, and civil society to set the agenda for a healthier future.

The World Health Summit was founded in 2009 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Berlin’s Charité Hospital and is traditionally held under the patronage of the German Chancellor, the President of the Republic of France, the President of the European Commission, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Over 300 speakers and 6,000 participants from around 100 countries come together for the World Health Summit, in Berlin and online. The topics of the more than 50 sessions include strategies for improving global health care and prevention, digitization, climate change and health, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The academic network of the World Health Summit is the M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centers, Universities and National Academies, a growing alliance of currently 30 academic institutions from 20 countries. The M8 Alliance was founded in 2009 under the leadership of Charité on the occasion of the first World Health Summit and provides the international annual president of the World Health Summit on a rotating basis. The final declaration of each World Health Summit is the M8 Alliance Declaration, recommendations for action to international policymakers.
