In the delina Awards 2021, the virtual reality dike defense simulator developed by SZENARIS and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) has made it to the final nominees, making it one of the projects worthy of an award. The Innovation Award for Digital Education will be presented at LEARNTEC, Europe’s leading trade fair for digital education, which will take place in Karlsruhe from June 22 to 24. The delina Award honors projects that combine modern technologies and media with everyday learning in an innovative way.
The virtual reality training system nominated in the category “Education and Training” supports the theoretical and practical training of the so-called dike runners of the THW. In a coordinated manner, they examine a virtual dike section for various damages, which they have to mark and document. The training personnel can enter or position various types of damage, such as slides, water seepage or cracks, and simulate different flood levels. In addition, what is happening can be observed from a training position. The virtual dike was realized by SZENARIS with Unity3D and can be experienced by means of the HTC VivePro virtual reality glasses. The combination of these wireless virtual reality glasses and the sensors installed in the room enables the learners to move freely in the virtual world and explore the dike “on foot”.
We at SZENARIS are delighted about the nomination and are looking forward to the award ceremony on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 2:15 p.m. at LEARNTEC in the Trend Forum Hall 2. For more information, please visit: https://www.learntec.de/de/learntec/die-fachmesse/delina-award/
